SFTP
Any SSH server with SFTP is a destination: a NAS, a Linux box, a hosted SFTP service. Version history is kept by copying on the server itself, so no download is needed to keep an old copy.
What you need #
- Host and port (22 unless changed).
- A username with a password or a private key (OpenSSH or PEM), plus its passphrase if it has one.
- Optionally a base path the jobs work under.
Add it as a storage target #
- Storage → Add → SFTP.
- Enter host, port, username and either the password or paste the private key.
- Test.
Test on the target's row proves the credentials; a target that fails shows the provider's own message until it is fixed. From then on it can be a job's destination, a cloud-to-cloud source, a cloud drive, or an archive.
What it supports #
| Capability | SFTP |
|---|---|
| Streams uploads | No |
| Version history | Sidecar, written with a server-side copy over SSH |
| Realtime cloud-copy source | No |
| Cloud-drive mount | Yes |
| Reachable from the Cloud Agent | Yes, if the server is on the internet |
| Browse in the console | Yes |
Things to know #
Host key. Caryvane records the server's host key on first connection; a changed key later fails Test with a clear message rather than silently trusting a new server.
Permissions. The account needs to create directories under the base path; a read-only account tests OK and then fails the first upload.
